RHVP is about promoting change. A pre-requisite for change is building awareness and understanding amongst the wider population and specific groups who can directly influence and enact change. RHVP communication raises public awareness about addressing hunger and vulnerability in southern Africa in sustainable and effective ways.
RHVP’s Learning Network
RHVP’s Learning Network is the main channel for the dissemination of information for the purpose of building awareness on hunger and vulnerability issues and advocating changes in policies, programmes and systems related to hunger and vulnerability.
The Network is run by a small team based in RHVP’s Johannesburg office. The team is responsible for a range of communication products including the website, reports, comments, briefs, media liaison and newsletters.
Media
While the use of a web-based platform is one means of reaching its targeted audiences, RHVP recognises that this has limitations (particularly in the region where internet access is low). As a result, the Programme is working closely with the mass media to raise the level of awareness on hunger and vulnerability at a regional level, and to begin a ‘public literacy’ debate around these issues.
Advocacy - alliances
RHVP is a small programme with a finite life and a limited budget, and recognises the value of working in partnerships and alliances at national, regional and global levels to promote awareness and advocacy. In this regard RHVP continues to work in alliance with an expanding group of like-minded organisations to promote social protection in the region.
